PublishWave Overview
Adept PublishWave is a comprehensive batch printing and publishing add-on to the Adept document management software. PublishWave enables Adept users to submit publishing and printing jobs manually or automatically. For the purposes of this document, we define printing as hard-copy paper-based output and publishing as electronic output to a file, including PDF, TIFF, AutoCAD DXF, and SOLIDWORKS Parasolids file format.
PublishWave Components
Adept PublishWave includes several software applications:
PublishWave Server
The workstation-based program accepts printing and publishing requests from Adept users and submits them to the respective CAD or Microsoft Office applications for processing.
The PublishWave Server program must be installed on a dedicated workstation or virtual machine, run as an application rather than a service, and use the Run as Administrator option. PublishWave Server requires an active user session on the workstation where PublishWave is running; however, the user session of the PublishWave server workstation may be locked to prevent unauthorized access. Signing out (logging off) the user session will stop the PublishWave server.
PublishToAdept
PublishToAdept is a program associated with PublishWave. When PublishWave deposits published documents into a watched folder, PublishToAdept can check those published documents into an Adept Library.
The PublishToAdept application must be installed on a workstation or virtual machine and can be run as a Windows service or as an application. PublishToAdept may be installed on the same workstation as the PublishWave server or on a different workstation.
PublishWave Data Bridge
Data Bridge is a program associated with PublishWave. Data Bridge can be used to move output files from one folder to another, extending the reach of published file access.
Each of the server-side PublishWave applications provides an appropriate administration console where the program can be configured, tested, and initiated.
PublishWave Client
This is the Adept Desktop Client-based feature that is used to submit printing and
publishing output requests to the PublishWave server. This feature works with the Adept
Desktop Client as an Adept PlugIn and must be installed on all user workstations that
require access to PublishWave capabilities. An administration console is available for
System Administrators to configure this Plugin. No specific requirements are described in
this document, as the Adept Desktop Client’s system requirements are sufficient for this
Adept Plugin.
PublishWave Web Client
This is the Adept Web Services feature that is used to submit printing and publishing
output requests to the PublishWave server. This feature is included with the installation of
the Adept Web Server and does not require any client-side installation.
